Sen. Chuck Schumer Misleads On Senate Budget Actions

Moments ago, Sen. Chuck Schumer made the inexplicable claim that Senate Democrats were the ones putting forward commonsense solutions to avoid a government shutdown.

Sen. Chuck Schumer Claimed That The Only Proposals “That Would Actually Avoid A Government Shutdown” Are Proposals Offered By Senate Democrats. SCHUMER: “Their latest trick is trying to accuse Democrats of not having our own plan. That’s a diversion. It rings hollow. The only proposals that have been made that would actually avoid a government shutdown are numerous compromises that Democrats have offered Republicans.” (Sen. Chuck Schumer, Remarks On The U.S. Senate Floor, Washington, D.C., 3/29/11)

Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, it seems Sen. Schumer is more interested in engineering a government shutdown than passing a spending plan in the Senate. House Republicans are still waiting on Senate Democrats to step up and stop misleading people about their alleged commitment to compromise.
