Someone Should Introduce Sen. Menendez To His Party’s New Chairwoman…

Today, Sen. Robert Menendez claimed that Democrats aren’t trying to link their energy tax hikes to lower gas prices. But Sen. Menendez must have missed his party’s new chairwoman, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, make this very argument last week.

SHOT: Sen. Robert Menendez Claimed That “Nobody Has Made The Claim” That Democrats’ Energy Tax Hikes Are “About Reducing Gas Prices.” “The bill, Democrats stressed, is not meant to reduce gas prices. ‘Nobody has made the claim that this bill is about reducing gas prices,’ Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) said.” (Andrew Restuccia, “McCaskill: Savings From Cutting Oil Tax Breaks Should Be For Deficit Reduction,” The Hill’s “E2 Wire” Blog, 5/10/11)

CHASER: Last Week, DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz Claimed Raising Energy Taxes Is The “First Step That We Need To Take” To “Bring Our Energy Costs Down.” REP. WASSERMAN SCHULTZ: “Bottom the line is that we are still giving ridiculous, unacceptable subsidies to oil companies. … That’s the first step that we need to take to start to try to bring our energy costs down.” (Fox News’ “Fox & Friends,” 5/6/11)

And just in case Democrats need a quick reality check on Rep. Wasserman Schultz’s claims…
