McCarthy Statement on Markup of the Protecting Jobs from Government Interference Act

Washington D.C. – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-22) released the following statement regarding today’s markup of the Protecting Jobs from Government Interference Act (H.R. 2587) in the House Education & the Workforce Committee:

“The Protecting Jobs from Government Interference Act is necessary to rein in the authority of the NLRB, and prevent them from dictating where a private company locates its business. I applaud both Chairman Kline and Congressman Tim Scott for their efforts on this bill.

“Our economy continues to suffer under the weight of uncertainty and stagnant growth. Washington’s overregulation and the threat of tax increases have inhibited business plans to include expansion or new hiring. The actions of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) are a prime example of the policies enacted by the President and Congressional Democrats that hinder job creation and private-sector growth. The NLRB’s targeting of Boeing for moving a plant to South Carolina, a right-to-work state that by law forbids compulsory union membership, is absurd and counter-productive. There are twenty-two states that are right-to-work states – will they be targeted next? Unemployment is currently 9.2%, and we cannot afford to have a Washington-based regulatory agency actively working against job creation.”
