McCarthy Statement on House Passage of the Middle Class Tax Relief & Job Creation Act

Washington D.C. – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-22) released the following statement regarding House passage of the Middle Class Tax Relief & Job Creation (H.R. 3630):

“House Republicans’ number one priority is creating an environment that promotes economic growth and job creation. The Middle Class Tax Relief & Job Creation Act continues current tax relief for American workers and small businesses while extending unemployment benefits for those who are suffering the effects of the Obama Administration’s economic policies. This bill also offers bipartisan solutions to protect the Social Security Trust Fund, averts dramatic cuts to Medicare physician payment rates to ensure seniors have access to doctors while reducing government spending, including freezing pay for Members of Congress and federal employees.

“The Middle Class Tax Relief & Job Creation Act also includes bipartisan pro-growth policies that will reduce regulatory burdens on small businesses and decrease our dependence on Middle Eastern oil. The President has decided, for political purposes, to punt on the Keystone XL Pipeline – ignoring the tens of thousands of American jobs it would create instantly. The Keystone XL Pipeline and repeal of the EPA’s Boiler MACT regulation enjoy bipartisan support – more than forty House Democrats having already voted for them. The House has acted in good faith by finding common ground with President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to provide relief to families and small businesses struggling in this economy. It is now up to Harry Reid and the Democratic Majority in the Senate to act in the best interest of our country and support this bill.”
