McCarthy Statement on December Jobs Report

Washington D.C. – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-22) released the following statement regarding this morning’s employment report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

“While we are encouraged that jobs are being added to the economy, the current rate of job growth is unacceptable. Hundreds of thousands of Americans have dropped out of the job market entirely, giving up all hope in finding a job. This morning’s employment report reminds us that Americans need and deserve a full-time President who is not distracted by the campaign trail. They need a Senate that actually does the work the American people sent them here to do.

“Over the last year, the number one focus of House Republicans has been on economic growth and job creation. We’ve passed jobs bill after jobs bill in order to provide much-needed relief for small businesses, so they can grow and start hiring again. Yet, our Democrat colleagues in the Senate remain on the sidelines – unwilling to offer anything besides the failed and tiresome policies of stimulus spending and massive tax increases on job creators. It is my hope that Leader Reid and Senate Democrats have resolved in this New Year to end their blockade of bipartisan House jobs bills, and do what is right for the country.”
