Schumer’s Ides of March
With 13 million Americans unemployed, Senate Democratic Leadership is stalling passage of the bipartisan JOBS Act that even the White House supports. However, that doesn’t mean they’re not busy with other priorities. Politico reports this morning that the Senate Caucus Vice-Chair and “message guru” Chuck Schumer is “scheming” on a number of things such as – weaponizing women’s issues and using tax increases to pit Americans against each other. So much for being “focused like a laser on jobs,” Senator Schumer.
Schumer Spin: “Senate Democrats Are Focused Like A Laser On Jobs.” “In addition, George, Democrats are focused like a laser on jobs, the economy, and the middle class.” (ABC’s “This Week,” 3/11/12)
Senator Schumer Is Working To Weaponize Women’s Issues To Create Campaign Ads. “New York Sen. Chuck Schumer believes he has found a political weapon in the unlikeliest of places: the Violence Against Women Act… It’s fodder for a campaign ad, and it’s not the only potential 30-second spot ready to spring from Senate leadership these days.” (Manu Raju, “New York Sen. Chuck Schumer Schemes To Hit GOP On More Wedge Issues,” Politico, 3/15/12)
Schumer Wants To Raise Taxes In Order To Divide Americans Against Each Other To Manufacture A Political Message. “From his perch as the Democrats’ chief policy and messaging guru, Schumer wants to raise taxes on people who earn more than $1 million, and many Democrats want to push the vote for April 15, a move designed to amp up the ‘income inequality’ rhetoric just in time for Tax Day.” (Manu Raju, “New York Sen. Chuck Schumer Schemes To Hit GOP On More Wedge Issues,” Politico, 3/15/12)
Schumer’s “Scheming” Is Not About Policy Nuance – It’s All About Divisive Campaign-Style Attacks. “None of these campaign-style attacks allow for the policy nuances or reasoning behind the GOP’s opposition, and some of the bills stand no chance of becoming law. But that’s not really the point.” (Manu Raju, “New York Sen. Chuck Schumer Schemes To Hit GOP On More Wedge Issues,” Politico, 3/15/12)
In The Short Amount Of Time He Is Pushing Policy Ideas, He’s Demanding That The WH Make Us More Dependent On Middle East Oil. “To address this situation, I urge the State Department to work with the government of Saudi Arabia to increase its oil production, as they are currently producing well under their capacity…” (Ben Geman, “Sen. Schumer Tells Clinton To Pressure Saudi Arabia To Pump More Oil,” The Hill, 2/2)
