McCarthy Statement On Passage Of The House Republican Budget – The Path To Prosperity

Washington D.C. – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-22) released the following statement regarding the passage of the House Republican budget, the Path to Prosperity (H. Con. Res. 112):

“House Republicans and the American people know that we can no longer continue down the unsustainable path of deficit-fueled spending we are currently on. We also know there is a better way forward – one that will not only prevent the imminent debt crisis we face, but will also grow our economy and spur job creation through comprehensive tax reform and a true all-of-the-above energy agenda. Reforming government and reducing the debt will help unleash entrepreneurship and the investment needed to get Americans back to work.

“We face serious fiscal and economic challenges that are the direct result of the failed leadership and policies of the President and Congressional Democrats. After three years of Democratic control of Washington, the national unemployment rate has remained above 8 percent for 37 months, the price of gasoline is skyrocketing towards $4 per gallon and the national debt has increased by nearly $5 trillion and now stands at $15.5 trillion. It is no wonder that last night the President’s proposed budget did not receive a single vote in the House of Representatives – failing by a vote of 0-414.

“The President’s budget proposal would only continue the failed economic policies that put us in the fiscal and economic mess we are currently in. Additionally, Senate Democrats have chosen to punt on producing a budget for the third year in a row – they haven’t passed a budget in 1,065 days. Americans expect leadership from Washington – they expect us to confront the challenges our country faces with solutions. In this respect, Washington Democrats have failed time and time again, and where they have failed House Republicans will lead.”
