McCarthy Statement on March Jobs Numbers

Washington D.C. – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-22) released the following statement regarding this morning’s employment report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

“This morning’s unemployment report underscores the need for leadership in Washington on economic growth and job creation. House Republicans have passed more than two dozen jobs bills that would provide needed relief to small businesses and entrepreneurs and allow them to grow and hire again. One of these bills, the JOBS Act, was signed into law by the President just yesterday – proving that when partisanship is put aside, House Republicans and the President can find common ground on the economy and jobs.

“Just last week House Republicans passed the Path to Prosperity budget. It is a pro-growth economic agenda that focuses on reforming government and reducing the debt to unleash entrepreneurship and the investment needed to get Americans back to work. In a speech this week, the President attacked our budget plan while his own budget fails to address the main drivers of our debt and would enact a $2 trillion tax hike – notably, it did not receive one vote in the House of Representatives. After 38 months of unemployment above 8 percent, it’s time for the President and Senate Democrats to get serious and work with House Republicans to get Americans back to work.

“The JOBS Act is an example of what Washington can accomplish when politics are set aside in favor of common-sense solutions. In the coming months, it is my hope that the President and Senate Democrats will work together with House Republicans, as we did on the JOBS Act, in order to reduce the tax burden for small businesses and pursue a true all-of-the-above energy agenda that will not only increase our domestic production and supply, but also create good paying jobs right here at home.”
