McCarthy Statement on April Jobs Report

Washington D.C – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-22) released the following statement regarding the April jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

“Last month’s meager job growth coupled with an anemic 2.2% growth in GDP in the first quarter exemplifies the overall weakness of our economy. This is the weakest economic recovery on record, and with more than 12 million Americans still out of work this morning’s report is a reminder that the President’s economic policies have failed.

“America’s strongest potential for economic growth and job creation lies in our small businesses – responsible for 65 percent of all job creation in this country. Yet, in survey after survey small businesses say they’re not hiring due to the economic uncertainty proliferated by skyrocketing gas prices, burdensome regulations and the constant threat of tax increases by the President and Congressional Democrats.

“House Republicans have passed over two dozen jobs bills that are aimed at empowering our small businesses by giving them the certainty they need to grow and hire again. What we lack are partners in the President and our Democratic colleagues in the Senate. It’s time to put people before politics and do what is necessary to get America back to work.”
