McCarthy Statement on the Sequester Replacement Act

Washington D.C. – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-22) released the following statement regarding House passage of the Sequester Replacement Act (H.R. 4966):

“House Republicans are focused on common-sense solutions to reduce wasteful Washington spending because that is what hard-working taxpayers expect: more responsible governing. We know America will prosper once we are not saddled with the heavy burden of debt and not beholden to foreign debt holders like China. We know that an economy that is not shackled by excessive government spending, taxation and regulations will create the millions of new jobs necessary for America to thrive again. Today, the House has acted to bring accountability and responsibility back to federal spending in order to end waste, fraud and abuse.

“In addition to making sensible reforms to Washington’s out-of-control spending, we have an obligation to prevent massive and arbitrary cuts to our national security apparatus. Even the President’s Secretary of Defense has called on Congress to find an alternative to sequestration – House Republicans agree, and today we’ve acted to replace it. I hope that the President and Senate Democrats will expedite this legislation on their ‘to-do’ list, and join us in strengthening both our national and fiscal security.”
