On Recent Poll Showing 72% Of Americans Reject Tax Increases In Down Economy:

“Ensuring tax cuts across the board is a bipartisan issue. Americans know that small businesses create jobs, and when the President wants to raise taxes, he hurts small businesses. A bipartisan joint committee studied the impact of the President’s proposal and concluded that over one million small businesses will have their taxes increased. Small businesses create more jobs than any large corporation, and that is why we are hurting today.”

On Preventing Tax Hikes On Families And Small Businesses:

“I think there is common ground because when Democrats controlled Congress two years ago, they extended the tax rates because they knew in a down economy, just like 72% of Americans, taxes should not be raised – 132 Democrats in the House voted for this. Then I listen to Senator Patty Murray say this week that Democrats are ready to go over the fiscal cliff for political reasons. That is what is wrong with Washington.”

“We should put people before politics and the best thing we can do is end uncertainty and extend the current tax rates for the next year so we can start debating comprehensive tax reform.

On Bipartisan Vote For White House To Reveal What Is In Sequester:

“We want to know that they have a plan. One thing is this White House or Democratic-controlled Senate haven’t passed a budget in three years, and with sequestration cutting $1.2 Trillion over ten years, half of this coming from the military, how can you plan to protect this country if you don’t know what these cuts are going to be?”

“We think there is a better to obtain these cuts and we are asking the White House to tell us what their plan is and they refuse to tell us. It’s politics as usual”
