Whip McCarthy Statement on House Passage to Streamline Energy Infrastructure Projects
Washington D.C. – House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on the House passage of H.R. 2641, Responsibly and Professionally Invigorating Development Act (RAPID Act):
“The greatness of America is represented by iconic infrastructure projects that pushed the boundaries of engineering and ingenuity of their time. The Hoover Dam, the Empire State Building, and the Golden Gate Bridge are incredible feats that defined American exceptionalism. Today, our limitations on projects of national interest are not restricted by a lack of expertise or plentiful supply of raw materials, but rather an expanding government mired with duplicative paperwork and frivolous lawsuits. This winter’s skyrocketing energy costs are the latest example of how our antiquated infrastructure permitting process has a negative impact on American households.
“The United States is currently experiencing new levels of energy production that are transforming our energy landscape, and providing our country with significant competitive advantages. As our production increases, so too must our ability to move this energy to achieve manufacturing competitiveness and stable and affordable energy prices for all Americans. The RAPID Act reforms permitting processes which have been greatly expanded far beyond their original intent which have needlessly delayed too many of these important construction projects.
“I thank Congressman Tom Marino for his leadership on this issue and hope that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid moves quickly on this legislation so that our abundant energy resources are able to keep Americans warm this next winter.”
