On VA, House Acts and Senate Still Waits
A new VA IG report will be released later today that will “demonstrate the extent of the systemic problems we have discovered,” according to acting Secretary Sloan Gibson, and the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee will also hold a hearing on VA accountability. As usual, action in the House has been met with procrastination in the Senate. Leader Reid is still blocking the VA Management and Accountability Act (H.R. 4031) despite the facts that it passed the House 390-33 and senior VA administrators got bonuses while veterans died on wait lists.
While we’re happy the Senate is considering some plan to help reform the VA, it remains incomprehensible why they would not take this first step in passing H.R. 4031. It’s as if Leader Reid stonewalls simply because he can.
