Simplifying Higher Education Opportunity Tax Credits

Washington, D.C. – Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on passage of H.R. 3393, the Student and Family Tax Simplification Act:

“Education remains the single best driver of upward social and economic mobility. Expanding educational opportunity helps make the American Dream a reality for the students working hard to better their lives.

“The Student and Family Tax Simplification Act that passed today helps students meet their educational goals and spend less time worrying about their tax returns by consolidating four existing education provisions in the tax code into one, simplified credit. Not only will this bill reduce inefficiency, confusion, and waste, it will also help provide low-income students and families the opportunity to obtain the skills needed to find better jobs that lead to better lives.

“In particular, I would like to thank Representative Diane Black (TN-6) for making sure opportunities for higher education are available to all students, regardless of their household income.”
