As kids across America prepare to head back to school this week, their fresh faces and eagerness to learn remind us all of the transformative power of education. Good schools and hardworking students fuel the American Dream each and every generation. Every student deserves a shot to succeed in school. Similarly, parents should have the opportunity to send their children to the best school possible, regardless of their socioeconomic status.
However, this past year, there were almost a million kids who wanted to attend a school of their choice but couldn’t. These children were on the waiting lists for charter schools but didn’t get in because there simply weren’t enough schools to meet the demand.
School choice gives everyone the opportunity to succeed by letting families choose the best option for their individual child. That’s why the House passed the bipartisan Success and Opportunity through Quality Charter Schools Act in May to help children go to the schools best for them.
So let’s make sure that every year when kids go back to school, they get to go to the best school possible.
