Commonsense Bills to Help Small Business

The vast majority of companies in the United States are small businesses, and those small businesses employ the majority of American workers. So when people call small businesses the backbone of America’s economy, they mean it.

But these are trying times for small businesses. Instead of increasing employee hours and wages, businesses are being forced to scale back because of Obamacare’s employer mandate and 30-hour workweek. Meanwhile, businesses and workers are struggling because of continued sluggishness in the economy.

The House has already passed four bills that will be in our jobs package this week to help spur job creation and save small businesses from Obamacare’s harmful regulations:

H.R. 2575, the Save American Workers Act: Representative Todd Young’s (IN-09) bill restores the traditional 40-hour workweek by repealing Obamacare’s 30-hour definition of full-time employment that puts low-wage workers at a disadvantage, as employers are forced to reduce hours and cut jobs due to the employer mandate.
H.R. 1105, the Small Business Capital Access and Job Preservation Act: This bill, authored by Representative Robert Hurt (VA-05), prevents costly Dodd-Frank Act regulations that diverts capital from  being invested in small- and medium-sized businesses.
H.R. 2274, the Small Business Mergers, Acquisitions, Sales, and Brokerage Simplification Act: Authored by Representative Bill Huizenga (MI-02), this bill streamlines regulatory requirement to help facilitate capital formation to grow small- and medium-sized businesses.
H.R. 3474, the Hire More Heroes Act: Representative Rodney Davis’s (IL-013) bill incentivizes businesses to hire veterans by excluding them from Obamacare’s employer mandate threshold.

Democrats have already cast 431 votes in favor of these four bills. Altogether, Democrats have cast over 850 votes for the bills in the House’s energy and jobs and economy packages. Small businesses are struggling in this economy, and it’s time the Senate vote on these House bills so Americans can get back to work.
