Ending the EPA’s Secret Science

Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 4012, the Secret Science Reform Act:

“To make our government competent and accountable, it first needs to be transparent. This is particularly necessary when it comes to bureaucratic regulations that have the potential to cost jobs and hurt our economy.

“Currently, the EPA can propose regulations based on science that it refuses to share with the American people or even Congress. In essence, the EPA is saying ‘trust us’ while it imposes increasingly harmful and costly regulations. But the if the EPA is committed to making rules based on the best-available science, it should only make regulations based on science that is transparent, reproducible, and available to independent scientists and the public.

“The Secret Science Reform Act does just that, bringing some much-needed transparency to the EPA. I would like to thank Representative David Schweikert (AZ-06) for his leadership on this bill to make sure the government is always open with the American people.”
