House Approves Bill To Promote Manufacturing and Improve Transparency

Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 4795, Promoting New Manufacturing Act:

“For businesses to invest and create jobs, they need certainty and transparency from government. Yet many manufacturers face interminable delays and unnecessary costs because of the Environmental Protection Agency’s slow and opaque permitting process. Majority Whip Steve Scalise’s (LA-01) Promoting New Manufacturing Act will improve government transparency by reforming the EPA’s permitting process. The bill not only requires the EPA to provide timely guidance on how to comply with standards affecting permit applications, it also creates a publicly accessible online dashboard to provide increased transparency regarding the timing for permitting. It will also require the EPA to report to Congress each year the specific actions it is taking to speed the permitting process. Promoting efficiency and transparency in the way government works shares bipartisan support. In his State of the Union address, President Obama even talked about the necessity to cut red tape to help factories get built. This bill is one step forward towards the reform needed to reduce the burden on American manufacturers while improving transparency in government. It’s a win-win.”
