Majority Leader McCarthy Condemns Brutal Killings by ISIL
Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on the murder of Jordanian pilot Muath al Kasasbeh and Japanese journalist Kenji Goto by ISIL:
“I condemn ISIL’s barbaric murders and extend my deepest sympathies to the Japanese and Jordanian people. The United States stands in solidarity with you and all those who are threatened by ISIL’s horrific brutality.
“The threat to the United States and our allies from terrorist groups like ISIL is growing, and it is essential that we respond forcefully to the growing dangers posed by the conflicts in Iraq and Syria. Having recently visited the Middle East, I am concerned the current effort has only slowed but not stopped ISIL’s advance and that we do not yet have a comprehensive strategy to sufficiently protect America or our closest allies from groups like ISIL or from Iran.
“Finally, in the event the President submits an AUMF to Congress, the United States and its partners must be fully committed to winning this fight. It is essential that we use all tools to confront the military and ideological threats posed by these radical terrorists. We cannot and must not equivocate in responding to this challenge.”
