House Votes to Stop Washington from Taxing Death
Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 1105, the Death Tax Repeal Act:
“We should never let the tragic loss of a loved one be compounded by years of added hardship from a government that treats death as a taxable event. The people in my district in California’s Central Valley who are affected by the death tax aren’t wealthy. They are regular Americans working hard to get by, struggling with our federal and state tax burden and paying the bills. Many of them own family farms, providing fruits and vegetables for people all over this country, and this tax makes it more difficult for parents to pass their family farm down to their kids. They just can’t afford it.
“Today, by passing a permanent repeal of this unfair tax, we sent a message to the American people that the House is serious about reforming our tax system by getting rid of this needles tax. I urge the President to think about the family farms this tax destroys, and reconsider his veto threat.”
