Congress Must Have a Say on Iran Deal

Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on Senate passage of a bill to allow Congress to review the Iran nuclear deal:

“There is good reason to be concerned about the direction of nuclear negotiations with Iran. The President has continually given a lot of ground to the Iranians, and the Iranians have taken that and pushed for more. This bill allows Congress and the American people a voice in any eventual deal on the Iranian nuclear program. A veto-proof majority vote on this bill would also provide Congress with the authority to stop the President from unilaterally lifting Congressional sanctions if he strikes a bad nuclear deal with Iran. Especially on something so consequential as a nuclear agreement with Iran, President Obama simply cannot act unilaterally.”
