House Bill Confronts Hezbollah

Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 2297, the Hezbollah International Financing Prevention Act of 2015:

“While the Administration is engaged in negotiations with Iran, Iran continues to exert its malign influence throughout the Middle East and around the globe. Iran continues to finance and arm terrorist organizations that target our allies—especially Israel—and sow instability throughout the region.

“The United States cannot turn a blind eye to terrorism or Iran’s continued support for terrorist organizations like Hezbollah. Today, the House voted to urge the Administration to increase financial sanctions against Hezbollah, target its media wing, and undermine the group’s illegal activities, like narcotics trafficking—all using authorities that the Administration already has at its disposal. The Administration must do more to attack the root of the problem: Iran’s support, coordination, arms, and money it provides to terrorist organizations.”
