House Votes to Repeal Obamacare Rationing Board
Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 1190, Protecting Seniors’ Access to Medicare Act:
“When Obamacare passed, Democrats tried to cover the law’s massive new entitlement costs through tax increases, unsustainable cuts to Medicare, and de facto rationing. Rationing under Obamacare is particularly harmful because it targets some of the most vulnerable people in America who have the greatest need for access to medical care—our seniors.
“The law does this through the Independent Payment Advisory Board, a group of 15 unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats tasked with making arbitrary cuts to providers that have the practical effect of rationing health care for seniors. That means the American people don’t get to talk with their doctor and decide what treatment is best for them. Instead, 15 bureaucrats might make that decision. Today, the House voted to repeal this harmful part of Obamacare because seniors and their doctors have the right to choose for themselves what is best for their medical care, not some government board.”
