Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on the introduction of a resolution to disapprove of the Iran nuclear deal and a letter sent to President Obama demanding that the side deals be made known to Congress:
“Today, Chairman Ed Royce (CA-39) introduced a resolution disapproving of the Iran nuclear agreement under the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act of 2015. Everything we have learned about this agreement has given Congress and the American people cause for grave concern. Iran still has a legitimate path to a nuclear bomb, Iranian leaders and the Obama Administration have expressed major public disagreements on key tenets of the deal, and ‘snapback’ sanctions are a fallacy. What’s worse, at least two side deals have been made between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and, thus far, the Obama Administration has refused to share the text of the side deals with Congress. It is clear that this is a bad deal, and the House will vote on disapproval in September.
“In addition to the resolution of disapproval, I, along with Representative Mike Pompeo (KS-04) and 92 other members of Congress, have sent a letter to President Obama demanding the text of these side deals be delivered to Congress. Over the course of the next few weeks, Congress will continue to study the deal, listen to the American people, and make the best choice for our country.”
