America Has a Right to See the Secret Side Deals
Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on House passage of H. Res. 411, finding that the President has not complied with the Iran Nuclear Review Act by keeping the secret side deals from Congress:
“The Iran Nuclear Review Act that passed with bipartisan support in Congress and was signed by the President requires the Administration to submit to Congress all documents related to the nuclear deal. It is obvious to everyone, except perhaps the President, that this includes the secret deals made between the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Iran. Because Congress has not received those critical side deals, Americans and Congress won’t know how we plan to ensure that Iran’s government does not covertly develop nuclear weapons or verify what they’ve done secretly on nuclear weapons in the past. Leaks to the press about one of the side deals give grave cause for concern, as it apparently grants Iran great authority to self-inspect one of its nuclear sites.
“This is unacceptable. Especially in a matter as significant as this nuclear deal, we need transparency, and the Administration’s usual tactics of secrecy and obfuscation simply won’t stand.”
