Tribes Should Be Able to Set Their Own Labor Rules

Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 511, the Tribal Labor Sovereignty Act of 2015:

“Despite years of precedent allowing tribes to set their own labor policies on their own land, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has chosen—once again—to overstep its authority in its attempts to claim jurisdiction over Native American tribes. Tribal leaders have repeatedly spoken out against this overreach, and Congress has listened. Representative Todd Rokita’s (IN-04) bill stops yet another example of needless and illegitimate federal intervention, restoring the sovereignty of tribes to create labor policies that are best for their members.”
