The President’s Energy Regulations Stand on Shaky Legal Ground

Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on the Supreme Court’s decision to halt the enforcement of President Obama’s restrictive energy regulations:

“After a Democrat-controlled Congress rejected the President’s cap-and-trade policies, the Administration attempted unilateral action. But the Supreme Court has now stopped this illegitimate abuse of power after 27 states revolted against the President’s anti-energy agenda. This is a welcomed development for the American people. The Administration’s regulations would kill jobs, increase costs, and decrease the reliability of our energy supply. That’s not what America needs. By putting these harmful regulations on hold, the Supreme Court has shown what shaky ground the President stands on every time he tries to impose his policies against the will of the people’s representatives.”

NOTE: The House passed two resolutions to disapprove the President’s regulatory cap-and-trade plan on December 1, 2015.
