Leader McCarthy on Squawk Box: The House is Not Sitting Back
Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) appeared on CNBC’s Squawk Box this morning to discuss House Republicans’ work to develop a bold conservative agenda for American success in the 21st century.
Excerpts of the interview are below or watch online here.
On House Republicans putting forward bold ideas:
“The House is not sitting back…. Whoever becomes the nominee, they can grab this agenda from poverty and opportunity to economics to reg reform to tax reform to health care and national security—these are all top issues. Remember, when Ronald Reagan passed tax reform, it really wasn’t his plan; it was Jack Kemp’s plan. We’re trying to change the House to become the place of ideas.”
On how to put America on a stronger path:
“Tax policy. Growth solves so many problems. Growth helps you. I mean, we have been so stagnant. It’s so frustrating. You look at participation rate, it’s the lowest it’s been since 1978. You look at how many people are stuck in poverty. If you want to get out of all of these problems—our debt—growth is the answer. It helps in so many places around this country.… I give a lot of credit to our Speaker. I mean he has changed the direction and the trajectory of the House. It is becoming the ideas place.”
