The House Passes Five Bills to Support Our Police Officers

Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on House passage of five bills supporting our law enforcement officers in honor of Police Week 2016:

“It is because of the tireless, and many times unnoticed, work of our law enforcement officers that we can be safe in our neighborhoods. And ever since 1962 when Congress established National Police Week, we honor the sacrifices made by police officers every year.

“This evening, the House passed five bills supporting our police officers, including bills which will improve the ability of our law enforcement officials to better find missing children, protect our police forces’ access to bulletproof vests, and enable officers to carry their firearms off-duty. These reforms will not only help our law enforcement officers do their jobs, but they will also save lives. In particular, I want to thank Representative David Reichert (WA-08) for his steadfast leadership advocating on behalf of our public safety personnel all over our country, as well as for his own service in law enforcement before entering Congress.”
