We Shouldn’t Pay Iran for Something They Shouldn’t Have
Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 5119, the No 2H20 from Iran Act.
“If Iran is barred from having a certain amount of illicit material, why on earth would we pay them for having more than that amount? Under the Iran nuclear deal, Iran can only have a specified amount of heavy water, which is used in nuclear reactors. Right now, Iran has more than what they’re allowed. Instead of forcing Iran to destroy the extra heavy water, the Obama Administration wants to pay them for it. It makes absolutely no sense to pay Iran for something it shouldn’t have in the first place. This bill to end future ridiculous purchases like this is the first of three the House will pass this week to hold Iran accountable. It’s dangerous to do nothing while Iran undermines international agreements and continues to threaten our interests and allies.”
