A New Day in the Battle Against Opioid Abuse

Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on sending a bipartisan and bicameral opioid bill to the President’s desk:

“Today, we are helping to solve a problem that reaches across every divide in this country regardless of wealth, color, or neighborhood. Too many lives have been lost because of the opioid epidemic, and this bill attacks the problem at the root. It also includes the OPEN Act, which I sponsored with Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (MD-05), to use data to ensure this legislation is working as intended. I want to thank every House conferee for their hard work, but most of all, I want to thank the community leaders out on the front lines and all the families and individuals who suffered from addiction who were brave enough to tell their most personal stories so that we could reach this point. Today is a day we, as a nation, begin to defeat opioid abuse.”
