Washington, D.C. – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on passage of the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act:

“Thanks to pro-growth Republican policies, there are currently more jobs available than people looking for jobs. This is great news for American workers. But it means some jobs are going unfilled because there are not enough workers with the appropriate skills and training.

“Over the next decade, 3.4 million manufacturing jobs are expected to be created. An estimated 2 million of those may not be filled due to the skills gap.

“Congress is working to bridge this gap so that even more American workers are connected to high-quality jobs. Today we passed the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act, which will now go to President Trump’s desk to become law. This bill gives states and schools more flexibility to connect students with job training and other programs.

“The American workforce is the strongest it has been in decades. We want to keep it that way. That is why we are taking action to close the skill gap by training the next generation of workers.”
