WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the need for Congress and the American people to see Special Counsel Robert Mueller's full, unredacted report on Russia's interference in the 2016 election:

“Contrary to Attorney General Barr's assertion, the redacted report by Special Counsel Mueller is a damning recitation of lies, misinformation, and malfeasance.  Although the report, as released by the Attorney General, does not, itself, conclude that there was sufficient evidence to prosecute crimes successfully, which would require proof beyond a reasonable doubt, it goes well beyond setting out a basis for probable cause that crimes were, in fact, committed.  In light of the very serious adverse implications of this redacted report, it is absolutely essential that the Congress and the American people have the opportunity to see, analyze, and decide the implications of the complete and unredacted report, including all of the grand jury testimony.
“Therefore, I urge the relevant Committees of the House to pursue vigorously: 1) receipt of the full, unredacted copy of the Mueller report; 2) an investigation of all matters related to actions by the President concerning obstruction of justice, actions by the Russians to interfere with and affect the 2016 Presidential election, and the relationship between President Trump, his allies, his campaign, and any Russian operatives, President Putin, and other Russian-affiliated individuals or entities in carrying out efforts to compromise the free and fair exercise of our democracy.  The pursuit of the above is essential for the Congress to meet its responsibilities to the American people and to our Constitution.”
