WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in recognition of Memorial Day:

“Each year on Memorial Day we honor the sacrifices of those who died in defense of our nation and its values.  The men and women who never came home must be always in our thoughts, and as we remember them let us pay them tribute by striving to preserve our nation as a bulwark against injustice and inhumanity wherever they threaten freedom, democracy, and human rights.

“As we do so, we must also maintain our commitment to those who did come home – that our veterans should always be cared for and honored for their service.  I join in saluting all those who have served, and I will continue to keep in my thoughts the families of our fallen heroes and all those who now rest peacefully in their home communities or in distant fields beside the fellow Americans with whom they served.  We will never forget them and all they did to keep us safe and free.”
