WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in recognition of Memorial Day on Monday, May 29:

“On Monday, Americans across the country will remember the service and sacrifice of those who laid down their lives defending the United States, our allies, and the democratic values we share.  Those who fell in service we must keep in our thoughts, while those who came home with the visible and invisible scars of war we must pledge to give our care.  We ought to look to them all for an example of what makes America great; not bluster but the quiet dedication of those who do not seek glory for themselves but for the flag under which they serve, who stand up for what is right and risk all to bring justice and peace to those places where it has been denied.   We must never forget those who paid the ultimate price or who lost loved ones to secure our democracy and to restore and preserve freedom around the world.”
