Job Posting: Legislative Director

Progressive California Democrat seeks an experienced, creative, outside the box thinker to serve as Legislative Director and lead the Member’s legislative team.

The Legislative Director will drive the Member’s legislative agenda, developing and implementing the strategy to advance legislative and policy priorities. They will supervise and mentor the legislative team and serve as the primary staff person in charge of the Member’s Committee portfolio. S/he will also be responsible for overseeing the constituent mail operation. Additionally, the Legislative Director will work closely with the Chief of Staff, Communications Director, and District Director to ensure the legislative strategy is incorporated into overall operations. S/he will coordinate between DC and the district offices on important legislative updates and district-based events and projects.

This is not an entry level position. The preferred candidate has substantial legislative experience on Capitol Hill. They are a student of the Congressional legislative process, possessing a comprehensive understanding of both committee and floor procedure. S/he is a self-starter who is detail oriented, possesses strong organizational and time management skills, and is adept at multi-tasking. Strong written and communications skills are a must, along with a team-first mentality and a great sense of humor. Salary is commensurate with experience.
