Legislative Director Job Opening

Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA-35), a member of the House Appropriations and Rules Committees, seeks a Legislative Director for her Washington, DC office.  The Legislative Director advises the Congresswoman and Chief of Staff on all legislative matters.  This position assists in the development of policy positions and legislative initiatives and manages the office's legislative staff.  In particular, the Legislative Director will oversee the Congresswoman’s work on her two committees and House floor activity.  Required skills must include a thorough knowledge of the legislative process and excellent oral and written communication skills. 

This is not an entry-level position.  He/she will be expected to work long hours when the House is in session and operate both independently and as part of a team.  A minimum of five years of legislative experience is required, along with a minimum of two to three years of managerial experience.  Fluency in Spanish and a background in U.S policy toward Central America is highly desirable.  Experience with the congressional appropriations process is a plus.  Salary is commensurate with experience.
