Senior Legislative Assistant opening

Progressive Democrat on the House Energy and Commerce Committee seeks a qualified and highly talented individual to serve as Senior Legislative Assistant with the primary responsibility of handling the Member’s environment portfolio and several other policy issues.

Qualified candidates must have a deep understanding of policy, rules and regulations associated with the Environmental Protection Agency. This includes a strong familiarity with issues related to environmental justice, climate change, the Safe Drinking Water Act and the Clean Air Act.  They will have experience drafting, advancing, and analyzing legislation; monitoring legislative developments; and representing a Member in meetings with constituents and stakeholders.  Ideal candidates will have a proven record of turning ideas into legislative successes; and an ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in an unpredictable work environment.  Strong organizational and time management skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a keen sense of humor are also mandatory. 

This is not an entry level legislative position. The preferred candidate must have a strong environmental policy background and substantial legislative experience (3-4 years) on Capitol Hill.
