Shut Down Amnesia

The Trump White House must not remember how the last shut down played out. With just four days in session before the April 28 deadline, reports indicate the White House and some Republicans are ready to shut down the government in order to fund their border wall. A look at some recent polling shows just how unpopular that would be with the American people:

From CQ Roll Call:

“An Economist Group/YouGov poll found that a majority of Americans think it's most important for Congress to avoid a government shutdown, even if it means leaving behind a proposal to start construction of a U.S.-Mexico border wall….”

“60 percent think it’s more important to keep the government running past an April 28 deadline [than fund a wall]”

From The Hill:

Sixty-one percent of adult citizens living in Texas oppose President Trump’s proposed wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, according to a poll the nonprofit, nonpartisan Texas Lyceum released Tuesday.”

From Morning Consult:

“There is scant support across party lines for prioritizing the border wall — 15 percent of Republicans, 10 percent of independents and 8 percent of Democrats said the wall should be Republicans’ top priority, and 42 percent of voters said the wall shouldn’t be built at all.”
