Communications Director

Representative Elissa Slotkin is seeking a full-time Communications Director to serve in her Washington D.C. office.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Executing a strategic, aggressive communications strategy across national and local, Michigan media

  • Maintaining strong relationships with Michigan media and pitching stories to local reporters that communicate the Congresswoman’s work directly to the district

  • Maintaining the Congresswoman’s strong, frequent presence in national media, including on national TV and radio programs, and other high-value opportunities

  • Managing intensive prep sessions ahead of high-value media hits

  • Coordinating all media efforts for the Congresswoman’s events, including building press events in-district that further the office’s strategic goals

  • Drafting press releases, advisories, statements, op-eds, social media posts, often on tight timelines

  • Staffing the Congresswoman for media engagements 

  • Overseeing digital, video and social media product and ensuring integration with broader communications goals

  • Managing the Communications Team, which includes a Digital Media Director and Communications Assistant

Candidate Qualifications:

Candidates should be college graduates, have exceptional written and oral communications skills, and strong experience in media and communications. Ideal candidates:

  • Have 5+ years of communications experience, ideally including on Capitol Hill

  • Have experience prepping and staffing a principal for media engagements

  • Are able to produce high quality work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines

  • Are hardworking and detail-oriented self-starters

  • Are team players, able to work both collaboratively and individually

  • Ties to Michigan and/or national security communications experience is a plus
