Chief Economist

The Democratic staff of the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee seeks a Chief Economist to advise the Chairman of the Committee and direct the policy staff, overseeing research, analysis and publications. 

A qualified candidate has a PhD in economics, public policy or related field. She or he should have background in economic research, forecasting and policy analysis. She/he should be able to serve as a valuable resource on economic issues for Members of Congress and their staff and be knowledgeable about the recent economic literature.

She/he should have excellent quantitative and analytical skills; be able to convey complex information to a non-expert audience; and write clearly and to give careful feedback on others’ writing and economic analysis. A successful candidate will have a history of publications targeted to policymakers and possess strong management skills.

Applicants should have experience leading a team of economists and a proven ability to direct and inspire staff in a government, think tank or academic setting. Experience across a wide range of economic issues is valued including, economic inequality, labor markets, climate change and renewable energy, consumer protection and antitrust.
