Office of Congresswoman Grace Meng (NY-06) seeks Chief of Staff

The Office of Congresswoman Grace Meng (NY-06) seeks a passionate, organized, and empathetic professional to serve as Chief of Staff in her Washington, DC office. The ideal candidate will have management experience, an understanding of the New York political landscape, experience on Capitol Hill, and coalition building experience. Above all else, the Chief of Staff is responsible for advancing Congresswoman Meng’s work on behalf of her constituents.

 

Responsibilities include:

o   Directly supervising up to eighteen full-time employees and up to four part-time employees; carrying out responsibilities in accordance with office policy and applicable laws. 

o   Coordinating and supervising the efforts of all employees including the administrative, legislative, outreach, press and constituent service staffs.

o   Setting and overseeing the implementation of office goals, policies and procedures and maintaining responsibility for all personnel matters.

o   Assist with the development and implementation of the office’s legislative goals and objectives

o   Maintaining a good working relationship with the Member, staff, stakeholders, constituents, and congressional colleagues.

o   Working well under pressure and with a flexible schedule.

o   Performing other duties as assigned by the Member.

 

Skills required:

o   Demonstrated management skills.

o   Thorough knowledge of the legislative process, rules and procedures.

o   An understanding of the district and federal political processes.

o   An ability to work cooperatively, and give and receive constructive feedback.

o   Temperament to communicate with a variety of personalities in a professional manner.
