Legislative Assistant

Congresswoman Terri Sewell, a moderate member of the House Ways and Means Committee, seeks an experienced Legislative Assistant to oversee her Select Revenue Measures Subcommittee portfolio and assist the legislative team in advancing a broad legislative agenda, with a focus on tax and economic policy. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: advising the Member and staff on tax, financial services, banking, and economic development related issues, working with the district and press staff to execute all tax and economic opportunity related outreach events, drafting and analyzing legislation, meeting with constituent and stakeholder groups, staffing committee briefings, hearings, and markups, and preparing the member for meetings and events within portfolio.

 

The ideal candidate must be a self-starter with a positive attitude, who is able to work under tight deadlines and complete tasks independently. Candidates must be able to work extended hours when the floor, committee, and district outreach schedules require. An expert understanding of House legislative processes and procedures, excellent organization and communication skills, the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, and flexibility with priorities is required. 

 

This is not an entry-level position and 3-5 years of Hill or comparable experience is required.  Connections to the 7th District, Alabama, or the Ways and Means Committee are preferred.
