The Office of Congressman G. K. Butterfield (D-NC) seeks a proactive, organized, and creative Communications Director to join the Washington, DC office. The Communications Director will be responsible for leading the press and media operations of the office, including development and implementation of the media, digital communications, and public relations strategy for the Member.
Additional responsibilities include writing press releases, statements, speeches, and all other forms of written communication; coordinating with legislative staff to provide ideas and advice on promoting the Member’s actions and legislative activities; acting as the media liaison for the Member; and assisting with miscellaneous administrative and legislative duties at the direction of the Chief of Staff or the Congressman.
Candidates must work well under pressure and have a flexible schedule to accomplish communications goals while maintaining a good working relationship with the Member, staff, media, and constituents. Qualified candidates must have strong writing, editing, and proof-reading skills, an understanding of print, digital, and broadcast media, and thorough knowledge of the legislative process, procedures, and organization of the House. Any interested applicant should be a team player.
North Carolina ties and Capitol Hill experience, and experience using iConstituent or similar platform are preferred, but not required.
