Rep. Grace Meng (NY-06) seeks a Legislative Assistant to handle foreign policy issues and support her work on Appropriations Committee and SFOPS Subcommittee. Candidates must be willing to take on other issue areas as needed, such as defense/NDAA. Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of Hill or comparable federal legislative experience. This is not an entry-level position. Successful candidates should have demonstrated experience advancing legislation, monitoring the Floor, and conducting research. Previous experience with the House Appropriations committee and experience handling foreign policy is a plus. Applicants should be skilled writers who are able to handle talking points, speeches, memos and letters. This is a position that requires the ability to adhere to deadlines, manage multiple projects, and maintain a positive attitude in a team setting.
Responsibilities will include preparing and staffing the Member for subcommittee hearings and markups, advancing legislation and other policy priorities, representing the Member in meetings, and maintaining positive relationships with congressional staff, advocacy groups and key stakeholders.
