Staff Assistant/Assistant Clerk

The Democratic staff of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs seeks a Staff Assistant/Assistant Clerk to support the committee with administrative tasks and assist the Chief Clerk. The Staff Assistant/Assistant Clerk will be responsible for administrative tasks in the office including managing the front office, processing constituent mail, monitoring office deliveries, organizing files, answering phones, greeting visitors; and other assigned duties, such as tracking legislation or compiling committee reports. The Staff Assistant/Assistant Clerk will also assist the Chief Clerk with preparation for and execution of all full committee and subcommittee events, which may include drafting invitations for events, archiving committee activity, and assisting with hearing/markup preparation. Additionally, the Staff Assistant/Assistant Clerk will manage the internship program.

Qualified candidates will be extremely organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle assigned tasks in a fast-paced office. The position requires excellent oral and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to constructively work on a team. A bachelor’s degree and congressional experience is a plus, but neither is required. One year of relevant volunteer or work experience may be substituted for each year of education.
