FOREIGN AFFAIRS SUBCOMMITTEE STAFF ASSOCIATE WITH REPRESENTATIVE JOAQUIN CASTRO

 

The Majority of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Subcommittee on International Development, International Organizations, and Global Corporate Social Impact seeks a Staff Associate to support the subcommittee’s work. The position will support Congressman Joaquin Castro in his role chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s subcommittee on International Development, International Organizations, and Global Corporate Social Impact.

 

The Staff Associate will handle day to day administration, subcommittee hearing and event coordination, and intern management, as well as conduct policy research, draft press and social media statements, and complete other tasks as assigned. The Staff Associate will also serve as a subcommittee staffer coordinating hearings and assisting with preparing legislative documents.

 

The Staff Associate will also cover Congressman Castro’s work on the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, Civilian Security, Migration and International Economic Policy. This will include advising Congressman Castro on U.S. bilateral and multilateral foreign policy priorities in Latin America and the Caribbean and supporting the Congressman’s legislative and oversight priorities.

 

Successful candidates will be enthusiastic, professional, hard-working, and detail-oriented, with strong writing and communication skills and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Candidates must demonstrate clear interest in U.S. foreign policy, preferably on U.S. policy in the Western Hemisphere. Previous Hill experience, experience at the State Department, USAID, or another federal agency, or on U.S. foreign policy in the Western Hemisphere is preferred but not required. 1-3 years of relevant work experience is preferred. Spanish language skills are a plus.
