Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) seeks a Senior Counsel to manage his Judiciary Committee portfolio, which includes issues such as voting rights, antitrust, criminal justice, immigration, FISA, civil rights, and more. This is not an entry-level position. A law degree and prior Hill experience are required.
Responsibilities include: preparing and staffing the Member in hearings and markups; conducting legal and legislative research; managing Member’s Judiciary Committee legislative agenda: drafting and introducing legislation; drafting and preparing correspondence for constituents and policy groups, dear colleague letters, memos, floor statements, one-pagers, section-by-sections, and other background materials; representing the Member in meetings with constituents, outside groups, and other stakeholders; working with colleagues to develop and advance the Member’s policy priorities; and responding to the concerns of an engaged and diverse constituency.
Qualified candidates should possess strong written and oral communications skills; the ability to work independently and multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment; sound political judgement; and excellent interpersonal skills. Salary range: $60,000 – $80,000 depending on experience.
