CONSTITUENT SERVICES LIAISON (CASEWORKER)

Democratic Member of Congress is seeking a Constituent Services Liaison to serve at Member’s District Office in Schaumburg, Illinois. This is currently an in-person position.

SUMMARY:

 As a caseworker, you will act as a liaison between constituents and government agencies or other organizations. You respond to requests for assistance and resolve issues through investigation, intervention, facilitation, and creative problem-solving. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

o   Acts as the representative for the Congressman within his or her area of responsibility including answering casework correspondence, meeting with constituents, verbal communications with constituents, and serving as a liaison with federal, district, and local agencies,

o   Handles casework assignment,

o   Acts as a liaison to local, state, and federal officials and other persons or groups to form effective relationships for the Congressman,

o   Assesses casework for problems requiring legislative action and makes recommendations to the Deputy District Director and District Director,

o   Maintains up-to-date files on all cases and categories of information of importance to the office,

o   Prepares periodic reports for the Deputy District Director on pending cases and district activities in his or her assigned issue areas,

o   Continually screens active cases and acts as liaison with constituents to ensure that their cases are handled in a responsive manner,

o   Manages assigned outreach,

o   Performs staffing and advance duties for the Congressman,

o   Attends meetings with and on behalf of the Congressman,

o   Mentors interns, and

o   Performs other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION (OR EQUIVALENT EXPERIENCE):

At least 1 year of experience; strong academic credentials.  Alternatively, 2 years of related experience or training in immigration, politics, or government.

 

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

o   Strong oral and written communication skills.

o   Thorough knowledge of legislative process and of House of Representatives organization and procedures.

o   Thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal agencies and departments.

o   Temperament to communicate with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant, and professional manner.

o   Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others.

o   Ability to manage a large number of cases.

o   Temperament to communicate with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant, and professional manner.

o   Thoroughness and careful attention to detail.

o   Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in fulfillment of casework responsibilities.

o   Passion for public service.

o   Works well under pressure and handles stress.

o   Works a flexible schedule including long hours, nights, and weekends.

o   Knowledge of or experience with immigration and nonimmigrant visa issues preferred.  

o   Foreign language skills preferred.
