The Office of Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) seeks a dedicated, licensed lawyer for her Washington, D.C. office. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, drafting legislation and talking points; preparing the Congresswoman for hearings, including assembling materials; drafting statements, and memos; and providing guidance to members of the legislative team on matters of constitutional and immigration law, among other responsibilities. The counsel will be responsible for handling assignments in a range of issue areas, including voting rights and elections law, homeland security, oversight and government reform, cybersecurity, and telecom/tech issues as well as religious freedom, civil rights litigation, separation of powers, federalism, and other areas as assigned.
This is not an entry-level position. Qualified candidates must have strong writing and legal research skills, prior professional legal experience and possess sound political judgment, the ability to work in a collaborative environment as well as work on novel and complex matters under time constraints, and be a self-starter. Fluent in Spanish or other language is a major plus.
